Lot n°175

Exceptional Pikachu Illustrator card graded PSA (1998 Promo). With its iconic design and rich history, no Pokémon card can match the combination of popularity, rarity, and mythical status of the Pikachu Illustrator. This is the most coveted card in the Pokémon franchise. Illustrated by artist Atsuko Nishida, one of the original character creators of Pikachu for the Game Boy video games, the Pikachu Illustrator was initially awarded to the first and second place winners of a drawing contest held by CoroCoro Comics in January 1998. The publication originally distributed 23 copies of the card. Subsequent art contests, which asked participants to design their own Pokémon cards and judged either on their drawing or their attacks, awarded 16 more copies, bringing the total to a still-minuscule estimated 39 copies, although several other copies have surfaced and been authenticated since. The card's design, which shows Pikachu joyfully illustrating Charmander and Mew, is a reminder of the origins of this now-famous card. This is the first time this card is being auctioned in France and Europe by an auction house
